Transbay Program
1. Replaced an outdated terminal with the multimodal
Salesforce Transit Center, which opened for service in 2018
2. Created a transit-oriented neighborhood featuring
housing (35% affordable), open space, offices and shops
3. Will extend Caltrain regional rail service into
downtown San Francisco and build the northern terminus for California’s future high-speed system
The TJPA is currently delivering the third component,
The Portal.
AfterBefore
• 2.2-mile rail extension in downtown
San Francisco, California
• Brings newly electrified regional rail
into a new downtown rail station
• Connect to the northern terminus, Salesforce
Transit Center for the first true high-speed
rail system in the United States
• Foundational investment in connecting
rail throughout the Northern California
Megaregion
• Project benefits centers on environment,
economy and equity
