RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Adif BIM Documentation Framework

 Refers to a set of rules, standards, and

procedures developed by Adif to

implement BIM in its railway

infrastructure projects and works.

o This framework is essential for the

STANDARDIZATION, modernization and digitalization of processes

o Its primary goal is to enhance collaboration, efficiency, and quality in the

management of Adif´s infrastructure projects.

o A = Passed, no objections

o B = There are comments that

should be attended

o C = Fail, EIR not fulfilled

o D = Not applicable

 All comments must have A

status for approval

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

 Limited room for automation.

 Compile typical comments of typical non-

conformities, on each item.

 Share previous audit reports with the team to

coordinate the type of responses.

 Coordinate with Adif the actions on several

items and situations.

 Dedicated meetings with suppliers, if needed,

for clarifications.

Description of the process

 The supplier elaborates the BIM Models

according to the previously approved BEP.

 Sener audits BIM Models according to Adif´s

o 2B.3 - Model is free of duplicate objects

o 2B.4 - Model is free of visual interference

Model Review Process 3

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Model auditing with BIMcollab Zoom

 Use of BIMcollab Zoom Lists.

o Predefined lists in BIMcollab Nexus that cover one or

Model auditing with BIMcollab Zoom

 More accurate audit compared with previous process.

 Standardization in all the team thanks to cloud space in BIMCollab

 Additional checks automated compared with previous process

 Output: Excel file report + Auxiliary info with checks on all objects

 Check for all items shared with the supplier in excel format for more accurate review.

 It is needed to export parameters into excel files to obtain detailed checks

 Issues with IFC 4x3 properties sets and coordinates. Software not fully compatible.

Model Review Process 3

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Model auditing with Power BI4

6. Model Review Process

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Model auditing with PowerBI

 Try to simplify the steps in previous process:

o IFC files are uploaded to BIMCollab Nexus

o PowerBI connects directly to BIMCollab Nexus

Model Review Process 4

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Model auditing with PowerBI

 Different data information is loaded in

PowerBI and connected

 Additionally, some external data is

loaded in the PowerBI project:

o Excel table with applicable RIH codes

o Excel table with codes for naming convention

o List of submitted files

Model Review Process 4

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

Model auditing with PowerBI

 More accurate and simple audit compared with previous process.

 PowerBI file is shared in a Sharepoint folder to be used by all the team

 Additional checks automated compared with previous process

 Output: Excel file report + Auxiliary info with checks on all objects + Access to PowerBI

dashboard

 Dashboard helps with total results and understanding of the comments

 Some issues with the access to PowerBI dashboard by external users

 This is used in other projects where Sener is the design supplier

Model Review Process 4

7. Conclusions and Next Steps

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

 This process works thanks to the standardization of Adif

 Audit openBIM standards (IFC) simplified the standardization

 Native files needs to be checked manually and only some objects (sampling check)

 This standardization was key to adapt to the projects review schedule

 Different review teams in different locations with same review outputs

 Some issues with coordinates and parameters when opening IFC4x3 with BIMCollab

 Review checklist is similar for basic design than detail design

Conclusions and Next Steps

RA IL SUMMI T 20 24

 There is a clear decrease on the hours needed for each project review and better time

response

 It is always worth to plan, organize, standardize and automatize. Take a breath!

 More accurate review compared with a regular peer review

 Future improvements:

o Automatize additional checks from the checklist and improve PowerBI

o Explore the use of IA for the review of BEP documents

o Investigate implementation of IDS (Information Delivery Specification)

o Check applicability of IFC Validation Service from BuildingSMART (https://www.buildingsmart.org/users/services/ifc-validation-service/)
