Thales Licensing Floating licence activation & setup

1

Introduction Thales licensing is a software-based licensing system that uses an Internet connection to validate and activate a network floating licence. After initial licence activation, the licences are administrated remotely and any changes made to them are automatically applied to the designated network floating server without any manual intervention required by the end user.

Each product licence is in the form of a unique product EID (Entitlement Identifier) which consists of single 36 characters and numbers. This is similar to other electronic product licence delivery methods used by other software vendors.

Here is an example email, received when a floating licence is purchased. The area highlighted in the red box is the Product EID, belonging to a InfoWorks WS Pro floating licence in this example.

Innovyze Licence Administrator Thales network floating network licences are managed by an application called the Innovyze Licence Administrator (ILA). This application is installed on the server that will act as the floating licence server and will provide floating licences on demand when a request is received. This application performs several key roles:

• Activate new product EIDs network floating licences to be served from the server.

• Publish all available floating licences and their current status.

• Manage commuted licences for offline use.

System Requirements The system requirements of the ILA are available on the following online help article. https://help.innovyze.com/display/ILA/System+Requirements

Please note the server that will be acting as the licence server will require internet access at all times. More details are available on the ILA System Requirements online help article.

After initial activation, the licence will undergo daily compliance and update checks, which happen automatically. If the checks fail, they will be attempted again the next day, for a maximum of up to 30 days. After 30 days of failed attempts, the local fixed licence will become ‘expired’.

Installation After checking the ILA System Requirements help article and confirming your selected server meets the requirements, download the ILA installer from the Innovyze Support Portal and run it on your selected server, which will act as your floating licence server, with the default options already selected.

Please note to select the floating option during the installation of the ILA.

4

Activation After successful installation of the Innovyze Licence Administrator (ILA), from the start menu, open the Innovyze Licence Administrator as an administrator.

Select the first option, to apply a software licence and click on Next

5

Input (copy) the product EID into the text box and then click on apply. Multiple product EIDs can be added on to on each line

6

The ILA will attempt to activate the floating licence on the server. A message will state if this is successful. During licence activation, a check of the system date/time is undertaken by comparing against a Network Time Protocols (NTP) via UDP Port 123 time servers (either windows.time.com or google.time.com) .

If the system time cannot be verified, a warning message will appear, but you can still proceed with licence activation.

The ILA will also attempt to open the following UDP ports (5093 and 5099) on the server to allow it to serve out licences on demand.

After successful floating licence activation select ‘previous’.

7

To confirm that the floating licence is available for use, select the second option – ‘View available and unavailable licences’ and click on next.

8

Select server hostname (The FQDN server hostname might be displayed) to display all floating licences currently served from the server.

The product application should now be configured on the end user PC, to obtain the network licence from the server. Please refer to the product specific installation guide for more information on this.

Click on finish to close the ILA.
