Speaking of transformation, our water infrastructure solutions have a long history, building on 50+ years of innovation from multiple companies and acquisitions.

Autodesk launched the AutoCAD in the 80s as the first CAD system developed for PCs. Meanwhile, XP Software developed the first Regional Stormwater Model and Wallingford Software developed multi-user modelling system with InfoWorks.

XP Software evolved into XP Solutions, Wallingford Software into Innovyze and were merged 2017 which then acquired by Autodesk 2021. This acquisition combined industry-leading CAD, BIM and cloud-based applications with water infrastructure solutions.

With a commitment to innovation and collaboration, JMT's integrated design approach ensures Charleston's long-term resilience and underscores the effectiveness of advanced drainage solutions in safeguarding historical cities against the impacts of climate change. 19

Caarapó, Brazil Schettini Engenharia Utilizing BIM and Hydraulic Modelling to Rebuild Dam and Enhance Water Infrastructure in Caarapó, Brazil

Challenge Schettini Engenharia addressed challenges associated with limited public resources, complex dam design requirements, and the need for accurate hydraulic modelling to ensure the safety and reliability of the new dam. Impact The Diego Cuê dam project serves as a model for smart city engineering in Caarapó, demonstrating how innovative technologies and methodologies can be utilized to address critical infrastructure needs and improve public services in resource-constrained regions. Solution The implementation of comprehensive BIM and GIS solutions facilitated accurate dam design, streamlined project management workflows, and enabled effective collaboration among project stakeholders.

This project was in Caarapo in Brazil.

Summary Schettini Engenharia's application of BIM and hydraulic modelling technologies in the reconstruction of the Diego Cuê Dam represents a significant advancement in water infrastructure development in Caarapó, Brazil. They performed BIM modelling, visualisation, and detailed design using Revit and Civil 3D. The model outputs were used in InfoWorks ICM to perform dam break analysis. The project ensures the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the new dam while meeting budgetary constraints and addressing the town's infrastructure needs. By setting a new precedent for smart city engineering, the project paves the way for future improvements to Caarapó's water infrastructure, leveraging the Autodesk ecosystem to create smarter, more sustainable communities. 20

This project was in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

Summary The SMART Tunnel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a unique dual-purpose infrastructure project. It serves as both a stormwater drainage system and a motorway, primarily designed to mitigate flood risks and reduce traffic congestion.

“The 12.7-km smart tunnel comprises a retention basin at the northern entrance, a storage basin at the southern entrance, 9.7 km of rainwater storage and a 3-km tunnel that serves both as rainwater storage and motorway.”

“InfoWorks ICM was used to provide the hydraulic modelling solution for the Smart Tunnel. Its real-time modelling technology, ICMLive, is used to model real-time and provisional data to determine when the smart tunnel can be used for traffic, and when it must be closed to manage flood levels.” 21

This case study is about comprehensive modelling and analysis using InfoWorks WS Pro (CLICK)

This project was in Bristol in England

Summary Bristol Water is a British water company supplying over 1 million people daily across an area of around 2,400 square kilometres in Bristol in England. This project is about responding to traces of oral pathogen in one of their treatment facility to prevent waterborne illness from spreading to the community. Hydraulic modelling using InfoWorks WS Pro was used to calculate how quickly freshwater could move through the network to restore the service while the oral pathogen is eliminated from the treatment works through preventive maintenance. Bristol Water calculated that 17,036 people from 7,375 properties may have been impacted by the incident if they haven’t performed the analysis.

Here are our key capabilities for Water/Wastewater Treatment plants First is conceptual, detailed and process design using Transcend, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit and Navisworks. Transcend can do generative design of water and wastewater treatment plants and generate P&ID and BIM (facilities) outputs via AutoCAD Plant 3D and Revit formats. Summary The City of Toledo turned to global design and engineering consultancy Arcadis to renovate and expand the 80-year-old Collins Park Water Treatment Plant. Using advanced Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and cloud collaboration, Arcadis designed an upgrade to improve the plant’s resilience and ensure safe water for the community. In the process, the company transformed the way it works. Arcadis saved more than 1,000 design hours on the Collins Park project—making it possible to meet the regulation tight bid deadline. Project coordination was improved by eliminating emails and downloads, which reduced lag time due to file transfers by 80%. Working directly with subcontractors in the cloud, everyone was able to see changes instantly. 29

Here are our key capabilities for asset management First is risk-based prioritization modelling using Info360 Asset and ESRI. Info360 Asset is a cloud-based asset management tool for risk-based prioritization modelling. Info360 Asset directly integrates with Esri which makes it easy to connect existing assets information with the models. Second is AI-powered condition assessment using Info360 Asser and Vapar. Info360 Asset directly integrates with Vapar which uses AI to review stormwater and sewer pipe inspections for condition assessment and capital improvement planning. Finally, integrated modelling and asset management using InfoAsset Manager and InfoWorks ICM. InfoAsset Manager is an asset management database and integration tool for maintenance decision making sharing the same integrated wastewater and stormwater model with InfoWorks ICM.

This integration allowed Aqua America to streamline data from CCTV inspections and GIS into one accessible platform, enabling better decision-making for asset management and capital improvement planning. By consolidating disparate data sources, Aqua America could effectively prioritize pipe rehabilitation, manage risks, and allocate resources. This project was in Wellington in New Zealand

Summary Wellington Water commissioned Stantec to improve the pump maintenance and service plan of their 259 pump stations and they used Info360 Insight as part of a solution. Stantec used Info360 Insight to help Wellington Water develop a preventative asset maintenance program so they could maximize all the SCADA data to better understand its operational performance. With the proposed plan using data-driven modelling, they estimated they would realize approximately 20% savings in electricity costs, plus saving costs associated with doing maintenance only when it’s needed while also reducing the number of field tests needed to assess pump condition, which also improves the pump stations operational resilience.
